Charlie Steinberg Wins M.I.P.A Lifetime Achievement Award
Charlie Steinberg, the co-founder and visionary behind Digitalmusician.net, recently received the prestigious M.I.P.A Lifetime Achievements award for his contributions to music and audio software development. His groundbreaking technologies have shaped the way generations of musicians and artists have created and produced music for over 25 years.

Since Co-Founding Steinberg GmbH in 1984 his remarkable innovations have set most of the major milestones for the growth and development of DAW technology in use today. Cubase had the first real time graphical user interface. Cubase Audio was the first native audio application. VST enabled the integration of virtual instruments and effects processing into the computer based recording environment, and together with ASIO, has been adopted as an industry standard protocol.
Charlie continues to innovate as the creative vision and technology developer of Digitalmusician.net. as he describes here.
“We are creating a community of talented musicians and producers who continually develop their skills and find inspiration from interacting with each other. They collaborate on personal projects as well as serious commercial projects. This is very different from the loop and fun approach that most other sites offer.
Our technology has been designed to foster this working environment. For example the DMC can record sample accurately in real time (in one direction), ideal for the producer/artist relationship. It’s as if the artist is sitting in your studio listening to exactly the same playback while the producer is recording. We have also integrated video and audio talkback so the producer and artist can see and hear each other while working on the project.”
The MIPA Award goes to leaders and innovators who have made major contributions to the development of the MI and Pro Audio industry. Steinberg is one of only nine other figures honored by this award which include Jim Marshall, founder of Marshall Amplification, Ikutaro Kakehashi, founder of Roland Corporation and Dr Fritz Sennheiser, founder of Sennheiser Corporation.
Congratulations Charlie on this well deserved honour and may you continue your mission to empower musicians with innovative technologies for many years to come!
